In Colossians, Paul makes the astounding statement that Jesus is "the bodily form of the Lord God." He writes, "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form,"1 Jesus is described as "the great God and Savior." Titus writes, "While we wait for the blessed hope - the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ,"2 Jesus, like the Lord God, has "a throne" to sit upon and "a scepter" to hold to indicate his power. The writer to the Hebrews says, "But about the Son he says, 'Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.'"3
The first epistle of John further exalts the person of Jesus as "the true God and eternal life." It says, "We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true - even in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life."4 The great marvel is that we fragile and sinful human beings have been blessed so that we can know as a friend and companion, "the true God and eternal life." Have you realized that Jesus bears the powerful "I am" name of the Lord God?
