Lord over Death Day 31

JerusalemJesus as God could give back life to those who had died. He could give resurrection to Christians who had died. Mark writes, "They were on their way up to Jerusalem, with Jesus leading the way, and the disciples were astonished, while those who followed were afraid." Again he took the Twelve aside and told them what was going to happen to him. "We are going up to Jerusalem," he said, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will hand him over to the Gentiles, who will mock him and spit on him, flog him and kill him. Three days later he will rise."1

Jesus and the Widow of NainJesus' power over death as God could be clearly seen in the raising of the widow of Nain's son. We are told, "Soon afterward, Jesus went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went along with him. As he approached the town gate, a dead person was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow." And a large crowd from the town was with her. When the Lord saw her, his heart went out to her and he said, 'Don't cry.' Then he went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. He said, 'Young man, I say to you, get up!' The dead man sat up and began to talk, and Jesus gave him back to his mother. They were all filled with awe and praised God. 'A great prophet has appeared among us,' they said, 'God has come to help his people.' This news about Jesus spread throughout Judea and the surrounding country."2
