Holy Spirit Dove

Jesus and the Holy Spirit DoveThough the idea of the three persons in the Godhead was shot through the Scriptures, the actual word "Trinity" was not found in the Bible! The concept was however clearly presented for example in the Creation account when the Word of the Father caused matter to come into existence. The Holy Spirit hovered over the waters and Jesus according to the Epistles stood in the background. In Christian theology, the first recorded use of this Greek word "Trinity" was by Theophilus of Antioch in c170 AD. The Greek word used for Trinity was "triad", meaning "a set of three" or "the number three". Theophilus wrote, "In like manner also the three days which were before the luminaries, are types of the Trinity of God, and His Word, and His wisdom." It was further pointed out that, 'Trinitarianism' contrasted with positions such as 'Binitarianism' with one deity in two persons, or two deities and 'Monarchianism' with no plurality of persons within God."

Come Into Existence

Beautiful valley and mountainsAccording to John 17.24, Jesus said, "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world." Note this last phrase where Jesus claimed to have been loved and therefore existed and been present before the Creation! Jesus was loved by the Father and present before the Creation itself! Saint Paul later wrote of Jesus in Ephesians 1.4, "For he (Jesus) chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight." Here Jesus stated that he picked out those who would be his disciples before the Creation of the Universe! An amazing truth to contemplate!
