"The Spirit and the bride say, 'Come!' And let the one who hears say, 'Come!' Let the one who is thirsty come and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life." (Revelation 22.17)

Deepest Spiritual Needs

Spirit And BrideThe ending of each of the seven letters to the churches in Revelation 2.7 was an invitation to hear what the Holy Spirit was saying. John of Patmos wrote, "Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God." The speaker to the seven churches was the risen Christ. The Holy Spirit and the Bride issued a come Christ invitation to receive the free gift of the water of life. This church could join in the invitation to accept all that the Holy Spirit and the Bride had to offer. They said, "Let him that hears say, 'Come!'" This symbolized the great truth that every Christian was to be a missionary. He who has been found by Christ must find others for Christ too!

Isaiah's Great Invitation

Invitation CardThe "invitation to come" was issued to all thirsty souls so that their deepest spiritual needs could be satisfied. Isaiah's great invitation in Isaiah 55.1 also said, "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost." Jesus himself added to this great promise in John 6.35, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." We are all issued a come to Christ invitation!
