Judge Jesus
(Revelation 20.4)

"I saw thrones on which were seated those who had been given authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God. They had not worshipped the beast or its image and had not received its mark on their foreheads or their hands. They came to life and reigned with Christ a thousand years." (Revelation 20.4)✞

Thousand Years

JudgeAt the end of the thousand years, the Devil was to be loosed, but he has not learned his lesson for he began where he left off. He assembled the nations for one final attack on God. A last attack on Jerusalem by hostile nations was one of the standard pictures of the end times in Jewish thought. Then came the final judgment. Judge Jesus was on his great white throne which symbolized his unapproachable purity.

Brass Weighing Scales

Brass Weighing ScalesThe picture in the New Testament was of Jesus Christ as the judge. Jesus said in John 5.22, "Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son." In the Parable of the sheep and goats in Matthew 25.31-33 it was the Judge Jesus who was glorified, "When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he (Jesus) will sit on his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left. In Saint Paul's speech at Athens in Acts 17.31, he said that God had appointed a specific time at which Jesus Christ would judge the world. "For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to everyone by raising him from the dead." According to Saint Paul in 2 Timothy 4.1, "In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge." Jesus was the one who was to judge the living and the dead.
