Into Eternal Life (Revelation 1.17b-20)

"I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One. I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades. Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this, The seven stars are the angels [or "messengers"] of the seven churches, and the seven lamp stands are the seven churches." (Revelation 1.17b-20)✞

Facing Premature Death

C. H. Spurgeon (1834-1892)Charles Haddon Spurgeon (1834-1892) who was a renowned Baptist preacher once said, "Death in its substance has been removed," and only the "valley of the shadow of death" remains. Nobody is afraid of a shadow, for a shadow cannot block a person's pathway for even a moment, nor can the "shadow of death." The shadow of a dog cannot bite, the shadow of a sword cannot kill. Those who are facing premature death from a killer disease like cancer or AIDS need to remember that the power available to John and the Early Church is still available to us today in Jesus.✞

Death Has No Sting

Scorpion StingWhen the end is near and we confront the shadow of the valley of death be assured that death has no sting. All bodily functions are terminated, but the Spirit lives on with the soul and the personality. Jesus who is the light of the World and produces the light that throws the shadow has removed the power of death for those who love and serve him. Jesus said to Lazarus's sister, Mary, in John 11.25b-26 even in her moment of bitter grief over the death of her brother, "I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies, and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" This great question bears forth the earth shattering truth that even "death and the shadow of death" are destroyed by Jesus.✞
