Mighty Heavenly Angel (Revelation 10.5-7)

"Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven. And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, 'There will be no more delay! But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.'" (Revelation 10.5-7)✞

Archangel Like Michael

Statue of an AngelA mighty heavenly angel appears and comes to announce the final judgment on the earth. William Barclay writes, "Clearly this angel has come from the very presence of God." His right foot is set on the sea and his left foot on the land to indicate that his words deal with all creation. Angels are described as Jesus ascends to Heaven in Acts 1.10b as "two men dressed in white stood beside them." Here in Revelation, this mighty angel is wrapped in a cloud. John seems to be back on earth for he sees the angel coming down from Heaven towards him.✞

Time is No More

Clock showing the timeThe mighty angel, which may refer to an Archangel like Michael or even to Jesus himself, now makes an announcement and swears it with an oath. Sometimes this announcement, "There will be no more delay!" has been taken to mean that "time shall be no more." That is to say, time as we know it is about to end and eternity is about to begin. It is more likely that the meaning is that there is no time left, that there will be no further delay and that the Antichrist is about to burst upon the scene in all his destructive terror.✞
