Jesus Christ's Death (Revelation 5.9-10)

"And they sang a new song, saying: 'You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God people from every tribe and language and persons and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign [some manuscripts "they reign"] on the earth.'" (Revelation 5.9-10)✞

From Every Tribe

Multitude of PeopleJesus Christ's death was universal in its benefits. It was for all men, women and children "from every tribe and language and people and nation." There was a day when the Jews could argue that God cared only for them as the chosen people and wished for the destruction of other non-Jewish peoples. But in Jesus Christ we meet a God who loves all the world. Jesus's death is for everyone and, therefore, it is the task of the Church to tell everyone about it.✞

Kingdom and Priests

Jesus in gloryWe are told that he has made us a "kingdom and priests to serve our God." He opened to Christians the privilege of being the royal children of God. We have always been sons and daughters of God in creation, but now there is a new relationship as heirs of grace open to everyone who believes.
