"And they sang a new song, saying: 'You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation.'" (Revelation 5.9)✞
The praise rendered to the Lamb by the Four Living Creatures and the Elders was offered because "he was slain." They sang Jesus songs which described the death of Jesus Christ and his blood that was shed for our sins. Jesus' sacrificial death was not an accident of history, it was not even the tragic death of a good and heroic man in the cause of righteousness but it was the specific intention of God. The object of sacrifice was to restore the lost relationship between God and human beings, and it was for that purpose, and with that result, that Jesus Christ died on the cross.✞
This essence of praise, to sing the songs of Jesus which we glimpse in our Sunday worship, God wants to make a permanent feature in our lives on earth and throughout eternity in Heaven. "Sing a new song unto the Lord,
Let your song be sung, From age to age,
Sing a new song unto the Lord.
