Heaven's Emerald Rainbow (Revelation 4.2-3)

"At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow, that shone like an emerald, encircled the throne." (Revelation 4.2-3)✞

With Someone Sitting

EmeraldTo further emphasize the other worldliness of the scene, John describes Heaven's emerald rainbow behind and over the throne of God. The opulence of these glistening jewels added to the magnificent sight before John's eyes. After telling of the wonder of Heaven, John reassures us so that we would not be frightened by future events. The world was not spinning out of control as some people would assert but the God of all creation is directing his plans from his throne.✞

Praise Song

SunsetThe amazing sight of glimmering rainbows and emeralds around the throne of God spontaneously brings forth a song of praise within us. The lovely Christian hymn from a poem by Carl Gustav Boberg (1859-1940) based on a Swedish traditional melody beautifully conveys the sense of wonder inspired by "Heaven's emerald rainbow."
"O, Lord my God. When I in awesome wonder,
Consider all the works thy hands have made.✞
I see the sun, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy power through all the universe portrayed.✞
Then sings my soul, my savior God to thee.✞
How great thou art, how great thou art.✞
In all the World there is no God like Thee.✞
How great thou art, how great thou art✞
