"The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place." (Revelation 1.1a)

Active Dedicated Listening

Fountain in GardenGod created humans with minds to think and hearts to care. It was often through our minds however that God spoke to us. Certainly, God did not normally grant his truth to the person who was too lazy to think. God sent his truth to the person who not only thought strenuously, but waited quietly in prayerful devotion for Jesus' teaching. Prayer and devotion meant active dedicated listening for the voice of God.

Soon Take Place

Jesus in GloryGod gave this "Revelation Teaching" directly through Jesus Christ. The Bible stressed Jesus' utter dependence on God. "My teaching," said Jesus in John 7.16, "is not my own. It comes from the one who sent me." Jesus refered here to the Heavenly Father. Again in John 8.28b, Jesus said, "I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me." John 12.49 elaborated this relationship of mutual reliance between the Heavenly Father and the Son further, "For I did not speak on my own, but the Father who sent me commanded me to say all that I have spoken." Truth brought Jesus' teaching to human beings, and that was precisely why it was unique and final.
