(Revelation 3.9-11)

"I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars - I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you. Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come upon the whole world to test those who live on the earth." (Revelation 3.9-11)✞

Endure Despite Opposition

Jesus on the crossIt was the promise of the risen Christ that those who kept Jesus command would be themselves "kept" safe by Jesus. "You have kept my command to endure patiently," he said, "therefore, I will keep you." Loyalty had its sure reward. The phrase "my command to endure" refered to those who had practiced the same kind of endurance as Jesus showed in his earthly life and ministry.✞

Inspirational Endurance

Face of JesusWhen we are called upon, Jesus Christ supplies us with three things to keep his command. There is his example, his inspiration and his endurance. We must walk looking to him as our example as in Hebrews 12.1-2 which said, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." Jesus suffered first and inspired us according to Hebrews 2.18, "Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted." With his example and inspiration we can endure to the end.✞
