Kinship of Essence

father and babyJesus' relationship to his Father was an astonishing one. His kinship was one of essence. Jesus' tomb was a mere stopping off point on his journey back to his Father. His relationship was in the godhead and both Father and Son bore all the qualities of the deity as blood relatives. A human in contrast became a child of God only by adoption.✞

Human Relationship to Father

Father and sonJesus regarded the Christian's relationship to his Father as different from his own relationship to the Father. With careful choice of words in John 14.20 Jesus said, "I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you." Again, Jesus explains his own relationship to the Father at the end of his ministry in John 20.17, "I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God."

Jesus' Relationship to the Father

Poster of a WormholeJesus' relationship to the Father was quite different from our own. We could only view Jesus through spiritual eyes in the personal Body of Christ. We could see the Creator God in Jesus in a way that we cannot of the Father. Saint John wrote insightfully in his first epistle in this regard, 1 John 1.1-4, stated "That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched, this we proclaim concerning the Word of life."

Creator in Human Form

Creator and ChildSaint John emphasizes that the Creator had taken on a human form. The disciples had seen the face which spoke the Word when all things came into being. They were helped in their understanding in that Jesus' body after the Resurrection was the same, though clearly different.✞
